About Velar of the Sea Cruise

Velar of the Sea Cruise, originally launched in 2018, is a neoclassical luxury overnight cruise exploring the peaceful waterways of Lan Ha Bay and Cat Ba Island. Spread across four decks, the vessel features 29 spacious cabins ranging from 40m² to 60m², offering generous accommodation for couples, families, and friends.

Every cabin includes a private balcony, sea-facing bed, panoramic windows, and an en-suite bathroom with a Jacuzzi bathtub. Depending on the category, guests can choose between floor-to-ceiling windows or a two-sided ocean-view window for broader views across the bay.

Onboard facilities include a fine-dining restaurant, Sky Bar, Jacuzzi pool, spa, gym, and a 300m² sundeck furnished for relaxation and sunbathing. The daily program also offers Tai Chi, Vietnamese cooking demonstrations, sunset parties, swimming, kayaking, bamboo-boat rides, and evening squid fishing.

Departing from Tuan Chau Marina, Velar of the Sea Cruise follows a quieter Lan Ha Bay route featuring Dark & Bright Cave and Tra Bau Area. The longer journey continues to Viet Hai Village on Cat Ba Island and Ba Trai Dao Beach, combining cycling, local culture, swimming, and kayaking.

Cruise itinerary

Morning

Optional pick-up from your hotel in Hanoi Old Quarter between 8:00AM and 8:30AM, followed by a comfortable transfer to Tuan Chau Marina. Arrive at the marina at approximately 11:45AM and complete the check-in procedures at the waiting lounge. From 12:15PM to 1:00PM, transfer by tender boat to Velar of the Sea Cruise, receive a warm welcome from the crew, attend the safety briefing, and settle into your cabin.

Noon

At 1:15PM, enjoy lunch in the onboard restaurant while the cruise begins sailing through the limestone scenery of Lan Ha Bay. From 2:45PM to 4:10PM, visit Dark & Bright Cave, a peaceful tunnel cave leading to a lagoon surrounded by limestone cliffs and lush vegetation. Explore the area by kayak or local bamboo boat. From 4:45PM to 5:30PM, swim in the tranquil waters of the Tra Bau Area or relax in the onboard Jacuzzi pool.

Evening

At 5:30PM, join the sunset party with fruit and snacks at Velar Sky Bar and enjoy the Happy Hour drinks promotion while watching the sun descend over Lan Ha Bay. At 6:00PM, participate in a Vietnamese cooking demonstration and learn how to prepare a traditional appetizer. At 7:00PM, savor the cruise’s Signature Dinner in the restaurant. From 8:30PM to 10:30PM, relax with a cocktail, book a spa treatment, try night squid fishing, play games, sing karaoke, or unwind on the rooftop sundeck. Morning

Begin the final day from 6:00AM to 6:25AM with Tai Chi on the sundeck, or enjoy tea, coffee, or juice while watching the morning scenery. A light breakfast is served from 6:30AM to 7:30AM. From 7:30AM to 8:15AM, explore the Tra Bau Area by tender and admire the tranquil limestone landscape associated with the filming location of Kong: Skull Island. Return to Velar of the Sea Cruise and prepare for departure.

From 9:00AM to 9:30AM, complete the cabin check-out procedures, return the room key, and settle any additional onboard expenses. Brunch is served from 9:30AM to 10:20AM while the cruise returns towards the harbor. At 10:20AM, transfer by tender to the marina and arrive at Tuan Chau Marina at approximately 11:15AM. Optional transfer back to Hanoi, arriving in the Old Quarter during the afternoon.

Note: The itinerary may be adjusted according to weather, tides, port regulations, or operating conditions. Swimming and kayaking may be cancelled when conditions are unsuitable. Wi-Fi is available onboard, but interruptions should be expected due to the bay’s geography.

Begin the day at 6:00AM with Tai Chi on the sundeck and enjoy the sunrise over Lan Ha Bay. Breakfast is served in the restaurant at 7:00AM. At 8:00AM, board the day boat and travel towards Viet Hai Village, a secluded community surrounded by the mountains and forests of Cat Ba National Park. At approximately 10:30AM, explore the village by bicycle or electric car. Travel along quiet paths through the forest and rice fields, visit traditional local houses, and learn about the culture, customs, and daily life of the residents.

Noon

At 12:00PM, return to the day boat and enjoy lunch while cruising through Lan Ha Bay. At 1:30PM, continue to the Ba Trai Dao area, known for its calm turquoise water, limestone scenery, and secluded beaches. Depending on the tide and weather, enjoy swimming, kayaking, or relaxing by the water. At 2:45PM, board the day boat for the return journey. Arrive back at Velar of the Sea Cruise at approximately 3:30PM and enjoy free time in your cabin, at the Jacuzzi pool, or on the sundeck.

Evening

Join the sunset party and Vietnamese cooking demonstration while enjoying the panoramic scenery from the sundeck. At 7:00PM, enjoy another Signature Dinner in the onboard restaurant. From 8:30PM, order a cocktail at the bar, book a spa treatment, try night squid fishing, play games, sing karaoke, or relax beneath the evening sky. Overnight aboard Velar of the Sea Cruise.

Check-in & Check-out

Check-in: 11:45AM at the Velar of the Sea Cruise waiting lounge, Tuan Chau Marina, Halong. Guests complete the registration procedures before transferring by tender to the cruise between approximately 12:15PM and 1:00PM.

Cabin check-out: Between 9:00AM and 9:30AM.

Disembarkation: Transfer by tender to the dock at approximately 10:20AM, followed by arrival at Tuan Chau Marina at approximately 11:15AM.

Child Policy

One child under 6 years old: Free of charge when sharing the existing bed with two adults.
Second child under 6 years old: Charged at 50% of the adult rate when sharing the same cabin.
Children from 6 to 9 years old: Charged at 75% of the adult rate when sharing a cabin with two adults.
Children aged 10 years and above: Considered adults and charged at the full adult rate.
Child rates apply according to the child’s age on the cruise departure date.
Cabin occupancy limits must be observed. An extra bed or additional cabin may be required when the number of guests exceeds the standard cabin occupancy.

Holiday Surcharge Policy

A compulsory surcharge of USD 20 per guest per day applies during the following holidays:

Holiday surcharges are payable in addition to the confirmed cruise price. Applicable dates and final charges should be reconfirmed when booking.
